Memorial Day Work Weekend

Thank you to all of the volunteers who participated in the 2011 Sky Ranch Memorial Day Work Weekend. It was a tremendously productive time, with noticeable improvements all around camp. Some of the major projects that got done include . . .

  • Wood chipping and beetle kill clean up all around camp
  • Restocked the wood shed
  • Completed the electrical upgrade in the backpack center
  • Beetle kill trim installed in the bowling ally of the backpack center
  • Installed a new deck on Bonhoeffer
  • Sewed 125 flags, 718 bags, and 1 pair of pants for summer programming
  • Dead trees taken down in platform tent area
  • Much much more

Beyond the projects that were completed, it was also a great chance for the summer staff to interact with supportive volunteers and for the volunteers to meet the young adults that will be so instrumental in this summer’s ministry. A very successful week indeed.

Check out some photos from this weekends projects.

Welcome to Summer

Greetings from Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp!!

It has been a long winter, with lots and lots of snow. But even long winters come to an end. While it has snowed over a foot in the last 24 hours, summer really is almost here. Starting next week, we will have the 2011 summer staff arriving. Then three short weeks later our first summer campers will arrive and things will officially be underway.

A lot has happened, since last fall (when there was last a blog post). For the latest, I would suggest reading the spring newsletter (CLICK HERE TO READ).

Since the fall, there have been quite a few property improvements made at Sky Ranch, both by our Property Manager Steve and by various volunteers from local congregations. Steve has been focusing on the backpack center, including redoing the bathrooms and installing new lights. Volunteers from Zion Lutheran Church, Loveland have been focusing on the Nurse’s Cabin, with the goal of a complete remodel all the way down to the studs. Volunteers from Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Fort Collins have started to remodel Schramm, with the goal of a new deck, insulation, new dry wall, heater, electric, windows, and door. Needless to say, things have been busy! Additionally, volunteers from First Lutheran Church, Longmont and Trinity Lutheran Church, Loveland, have stopped by to offer a helping hand.

Below you will find some photos of the various projects happening around camp, as well as some photos of our recent snow (including some taken today . . . May 19!).

Check back with us soon. We will be doing daily blog posts throughout the summer, sharing the joy of camp with you . . . and all the wonderful ministry moments happening at Sky Ranch!
